Paul’s service yesterday was a fitting tribute to a “unique” , kind , compassionate and industrious man who made life a little easier for some , and brought a smile to the faces of many more. Well known in the area, he will be missed. Go fly with the angels Paul.

My Aunt and Uncle used to live across the street from Nowlan’s Canteen so I remember going there often to get treats. The milkshakes were the best. Paul was always there keeping an eye on things and making sure everyone behaved themselves. RIP Paul.

My grandmother (Alice DeLong Sabean, New Tusket)and Paul's (Aunt Hattie Delong Nowlan)) were sisters so our families often crossed. My late husband, Malcolm, and I often visited the Nowlans and the canteen. It was really special to get to know Paul so well over the years and we always enjoyed dropping in and eating delicious sandwiches often made by Joyce and served so willingly and politely by Paul or others on duty at the time.
Sincere condolences to all the family.

I was so sad to learn of Paul’s death. I knew him from the time I was a teenager in Wolfville. My girlfriend at the time lived near Nowlan’s Canteen and I was a regular for one of their “famous” ham sandwiches. Paul was always engaging and fun to chat with. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family.

I have known Paul since me arrival in Wolfville as an Acadia Student. I was a regular customer at The Canteen and I really looked forward to talking with Paul. When I worked for Annapolis Valley Radio, Paul affectionately called me Mr. E B C ( only Paul would know that the original name was Evangeline Broadcasting Company) Over the years he would call me when he a question re church broadcasts, or the Tetley Tea Contest. He kept me on my toes when he felt that local radio was losing touch with its listeners. A great guy !!! A Wolfville character. And most importantly, a Christian's Christian. Rest in peace, my friend. Blaine Morrison , Mr. EBC Kentville

My wish for those mourning Paul’s transition is that sadness and celebration will coexist.
I am aware of Paul’s life as being a life rich in his sense of community, his commitment to duty and, most of all, his practice of integrity. Structured and serious in his work, thoughtful and polite with those he encountered, Paul stood out for me - ten years his junior, as a blessed role model.
His family, his community, Acadian Lines and the Chronicle Herald were well served by his loyalty.

Paul was an institution in Wolfville, and he shall be missed by many. Having known Paul since I was a young child, and last seeing him during a visit while in Evergreen, he never changed (thank god). In school we would visit Paul and there was always great banter, and know he always held his own!! Later during my 18 years of policing in Wolfville I became astutely aware of Paul's knowledge and awareness of the collage town we both knew. I truly was fortunate to get to spend the time I did with him. A very unique, and interesting man. RIP Paul. Bless all those in his family.

Paul will always be fondly remembered by my family . My children knew him as the friendly crossing guard for school, where he always looked out for them and had a friendly greeting . He never accepted a treat without reciprocating , even though we insisted it was not necessary.
He always knew we would have a coffee for him at the dental office and was a frequent visitor . Paul was an icon in the town of Wolfville and has been missed these last years . I hope he has found comfort and peace .
Sincere condolences ,
Tammie
