Obituary of Paul Andrew George Nowlan

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Paul Andrew George Nowlan, born in Wolfville on November 28, 1946, the youngest of Karl Eaton Nowlan and Minnie Freda Flossie Cross Nowlan’s seven children. Paul completed his studies at Wolfville School, attended Mack Business College in Kentville, and continued his education via correspondence courses and night school.

He worked in the family business, starting part-time in between schoolwork. Always an early riser, Paul delivered the Halifax Herald for over 20 years. He succeeded his father as proprietor of Nowlan’s Canteen, where he was able to keep his finger on the happenings in Wolfville. He fondly remembered the days before the 101 Highway, when it was standing room only at Nowlan’s lunch counter. Afterwards, he worked for the Town of Wolfville while managing his Old Gristmill Apartments.

Before becoming a member of Wolfville Baptist Church, Paul was a faithful supporter of Kingsway Assembly, volunteering both time and goods to church activities, outreach and charitable initiatives, including Canada’s National Bible Hour. Always willing to offer rides, he squeezed in passengers en route to church services and events. He served his community as a member of the IOOF.

Paul was predeceased by dearly missed siblings Miriam (Leo Nasager) and Dwight (Patricia), and is survived by Karl Jr (Joyce), Joyce, James (Betty-Lou), Bruce (Pearl). He will be greatly missed by so many, including nieces Ingrid (Martin Ortuzar), Aileen (Jessica Moore), and brother-in-law Leo.

Visitation Monday Nov 22 at 12pm, with funeral to follow at 2pm, both at Wolfville Baptist Church. Attendees will need to show proof of double vaccination with photo ID. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canada’s National Bible Hour, Wolfville Baptist Church or The Seeing Eye Organization. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
