I did a term of my practice teaching with Mrs. Eaton and feel that I have known her most of my life. She was a marvellous teacher with her primary class and I learned that patience and kindness go a long way in dealing with not only small children but all children.
I also learned how to dress a class of five year olds in snow suits in a very short time!
She was great teacher and lady. Sorry to hear of her passing. Condolences to the family

Sally and Ron I am sorry to hear of your loss. My father used to tell the story which your mother always reminded him of. In Annapolis Royal in the 1950's our Little black spaniel had puppies and somehow your mother ended up with one. My father ensured her that the puppy would grow up to be a small dog like the mother, but it ended up being large and hence your mother would always remind my father of his guarantee.

Although I didn't know Joan, I have known Peter and Sally since we were at Acadia in the '60s. In recent years since I returned to Wolfville after being away for nearly 40 years, we've often traded stories of our respective mothers, both living exceptionally well through very long lives. My mother is 109 now, so I know that having one's mother into our own old age is very special. I also know that you, Peter, Ron and Sally, have enjoyed your mother's company and cared for her lovingly throughout your lives. May you find solace in knowing that and may your mum rest in peace having experienced your loving care.

Condolences to Joan 's family from Don and Mary Ellen Hopkins.
I remember staying overnight at John and Joan's house in Wolfville in the early 1950's at the time of my step grandfather Dr Leslie Eaton's passing. Joan was so kind to me and my brother Tom . I was probably in my early teens. Love from Don

Peter, Ron, Sally and family members:
I was saddened to read of the passing of your Mom (grandmom) in today's paper.
Her life was most certainly a fulfilling one. From the reading of "her story" she lived a life of positivity . . always on the go with lots of achievements and experiences in her life.
I remember running into her in downtown Wolfville when she was in her nineties. At that time she told me she was (still) swimming regularly at the Acadia Pool. Never a quitter in life.
I know she leaves behind a loving family for whom she set a fine example of a life well-led.

To Ronnie and siblings,
So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She sure lived a full live. I can remember many years ago when I was living at home line dancing lessons were offered, I'm not sure where, but your Mom was there and she really enjoyed them. I think Sally was with her. Your Dad was one of my dentists back in the early school days.
You will have so many happy memories to remember her by.
May she RIP.

Dear Peter, Ron, Sally and families,
Our deepest condolences on your Mother's passing.
Not only having known her as your Mother, I also look back on my time in Girl Guides and vividly recall her infectious smile, sparkling eyes and her dedication and enthusiasm.
Many years later we had a delightful conversation when we reconnected, by chance, while vacationing in Barbados.
May wonderful memories wrap your hearts in comfort at this time and in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Ruth Anne and David Nicholson

Dear Sally Ronny Peter and families,
Please accept my deepest sympathy on your Mother's passing.
I got to know her well as I worked with her for many years.
We were very successful together as you know, and she loved the whole experience as did I.
We had many wonderful conversations rife with history humour philosophy and just plain enjoyment of everyday life.
Joan looked on the bright side and I always felt better about the day after talking to her or coming to see her.
She lived a grand full life ,overcame adversity, persevered through all ups and downs, and truly, she was one of the prime reasons for all of your successes.
Her 100th Birthday Party at Acadia which you organized so well, was a wonderful tribute to her and I enjoyed helping you all celebrate that with her!
It was a job well done!
She was the shining example of "well done, thou good and faithful servant".
The Salvation Army in their doctrines and rites of passage, call dying : "Being Promoted to Glory",as the Lord has need of you, so this will be my way of looking at Joan's passing.
Truly a Celebration of Her Wonderful Productive Life and now she is gone to help the Lord, the way she helped so many people in her life.
May God Love Her and May The Lord Bless You All in your hour of sorrow.
Sincerely, and with Great Respect for Joan,
G. Franklyn Hiscock.

Joan was my teacher mentor when I took education at Acadia. I learned so much in her classroom of five year olds, and consider myself lucky to have been placed with her. She was always so kind, and so very supportive. I can still clearly see her smile and hear her voice. And now I am retired; time passes so quickly, but wonderful memories remain.

Like a whole generation or two of Wolfville kids, Mrs. Eaton was my first ever teacher - Kindergarten in Wolfville's McKay School - and I don't think we could have wished for a better first teacher. I remember being so excited to go to school every day, and that was in large part due to Mrs. Eaton's ability to impart her interest and enthusiasm for learning about the big wide world out there to us 5-year-olds. She was a kind and constant presence for all of us little kids in McKay school, right up to when we "graduated" to Munro School. To this day, when I have to decide quickly is something left or right, I visualize that kindergarten class with Mrs. Eaton pointing out the left and right sides of the room... It sounds like she lived a very full and rich life, and she influenced so many young minds so positively. Condolences to all her family, Jill Blakeney

Sally, and all your family please accept my deepest condolences for your loss of your mom. She was my very first teacher in the old "MacKay Building" in 1962. Over the years any time I would encounter her it was always a smile, a laugh and best of wishes from her. I think of how many people over the years were influenced in a positive way by Mrs. Eaton. I suppose I am one of those fortunate ones. May fond memories be with you and provide a smile from time to time. Bless you all. Mac
