I worked with with Wade at the Metro Centre from 2005 until he retired. If he wouldn't have ran into me at my full time job doing a delivery, I don't know if I would have worked on the Ice Crew. I'm very thankful he did, I always got along well with him, I definitely missed seeing him at the rink after he retired.
Please accept my deepest condolences, Rest easy Wade.

I was so sad to hear of Wade’s passing. He worked for 32 years with my dad (Randy Johnston) at the Metro Centre and was a great friend of his too. I grew up at the Metro Centre and thought it was cool that I could go behind the scenes. I grew to know many of the event techs like they were my uncles. I went to most Halifax Citadel, SMU, Ice Capades, Moosehead games and loved watching Wade zip around the ice on the Zamboni.
Our family home was the party house. It was always fun as a kid growing up on party nights. We got to stay up late, listen to some jams by the band, hang out with Wade and the other event techs, and if we could stay awake late enough my brother and I got to sneak some Recardos pizza! Wade always gave big hard bedtime hugs or a cool high five.
When I got married, Wade wanted to make sure I had a good one. He paid him a little visit stating that my husband better not break my heart, or he would break his. Wade chuckled with my husband, Tony and said he liked him. Wade must have known he was a keeper, it’s been 23 years and my heart is full.
I hope you rest in love Wade. May all those close to you have a heart full of memories of you that they will think of often and smile.

Wade was like a older brother to me. A mentor, teacher of everything! We worked together for decades and I learned something new from him everyday. I still wish I bought his Harley when he offered, lol

I will forever cherish my childhood memories of Wadestock, and the good times had on the hill. I recall the numerous pictures I had colored for Wade as a child, and how they hung on his fridge in Elmwood, and probably still do. My heart aches for his passing, but I am glad to have known such a truly wonderful person. I will miss you dearly Wade.

I will never forget my time working with Wade as part of his Ice Crew. From our ice out parties to the Ozzy concert. A hockey game didn't go by without Wade "firing" one of us Rink Rats. Those were great and memorable times. Wade will truly be missed!
