My sincere condolences, Dr. Overington was one of my favourite profs during my time at SMU in the 90's, the best interactive exams! He loved his students, and I recall he maintained a photo book with all our names so he could remember who we were if we ran into him outside of SMU ;)
Prayers and thoughts to the family

Professor Hallett (left, BA and MA from Dalhousie University, SMU English professor 1960-1997) auctions off a laughing Professor Michael Overington's price of lunch at the Clipper Cay with him for $20.00 at the Women's Field Hockey Auction (held April 7, 1978), a fundraiser for their trip to Britain.

Dear Donna and the other beautiful women in Michael's life,
For me, Michael was a wonderful character from a Middle Earth world, who graced my undergraduate years. Past graduation, he and I shared a friendship over British fare in the Henry House, and exchanged witty emails across the ether. I can't give you a date, but at some point in our friendship, we drifted and our exchanges went silent.
It is difficult to forget a person who could wear three piece suits with moccasins, or the thinnest braid in his salt and pepper hair. Love him or leave him, he will not be replaced.
Thank you for your friendship Captain. Rest easy now surrounded by your books and music.
My condolences to those he loved.

I am sorry to learn about Michael’s passing. Michael and I were colleagues at Saint Mary’s University (he in Sociology, me in Anthropology) for several years in the 1970s and, as I recall, early 1980s. We socialized often. I remember Michael fondly as a lively and outspoken conversationalist about many matters, not only academic matters. He was always a joy to encounter and interact with. I send my condolences to his family and loved ones.

My condolences to Donna and Michael's family.
Michael was my very first professor at St. Mary's where I took Sociology 101.
He made it so interesting that I ended up doing my university career in Sociology.
Thank you for your life and passing on your passion Professor Overington.
