Obituary of Eleanor Margaret Nixon

It is with sadness that the family announces that Eleanor Nixon, 96 of Berwick passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, in the Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton. Born January 18, 1928, in Amherst, N.S.

Eleanor will be remembered for her wonderful stories that drew people to her, along with a hot cup of coffee, they would be entertained for hours.  Her home was always a comfortable place to spend time in, there was always a good laugh and an interesting conversation.  She was a wonderful painter, and her home was decorated with her many pictures throughout the rooms.

Many people would remark on the comfort of enjoying her company. They would always promise a return visit, and they did.

She met copious amounts of people throughout her life, many through her love of horses, several of which became lifelong friends.  Her life was full, and she experienced countless unique adventures.  She grew up in her early life on the Digby Golf course during the summer, and spent time at the Digby Pines Resort during the winter, residing in the Pines Resort during the War when it was closed.  She could claim the fame of caddying for Babe Ruth during a 3-day golf tournament held at the Digby Golf Course.

It was at the Digby Pines that she met and fell in love with her husband Phillip Nixon, and the adventures of life truly began.

Eleanor is survived by her three children, sons Terry Nixon (Judy Kavanagh) of Berwick, Rick Nixon (Rena Redden) of New Minas and daughter Mary Lou Bethune of Berwick, 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her husband of 36 years Philip Nixon.

“The family would like to give a special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Barb and Anita who made mom’s days comfortable and joyful.”

Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Conway, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
