Obituary of Erle Saunders Dolsen

Erle S. Dolsen, 102, Berwick (formerly of Auburn), passed away on November 12, 2024, in the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Halifax. Born in Strasbourg, Sask, he was the son of the late Edwin and Mary Dolsen and was the last of a family of three sisters.

Erle served his country for 33 years in the R.C.A.F. He was a member of the Central Command Band in Ottawa before becoming bandmaster in Moose Jaw, Winnipeg and ultimately Greenwood NS. A member of the Aylesford United Church, he conducted the choir for over 50 years. He formed and led the Autumnaire Bell Choir entertaining local audiences. A staunch legion member, he received its highest award, The Meritorious Award Medal and Palm Leaf. Erle loved his family, gave freely of his talent and time, and believed “the rich are poor without music.”

In addition to his parents, Erle was predeceased by his loving wife of 75 years, Kathleen (2018).

Erle is survived by his children, Barbara Riley, Craig (Libby) Dolsen, Dana (Linda) Dolsen and Kerry (Bishop) Mapplebeck; grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service and burial will be held at Aylesford United Church on November 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm. At Erles request please wear colorful clothing.
