We posted this on the Electronic Acadia Bulletin Board, I wanted to share it with you.
Remembering Mary-Lou Conrad
Mary Lou Conrad passed away at her home in Wolfville at the age of 62 on November 29, 2024.
Mary Lou Conrad Web Manager for the Vaughan Memorial Library for over thirty years. Beginning way back in 1987, Mary Lou brought a unique blend of creativity, joy, and dedication to her work, leaving an indelible mark on the library and its community until her retirement in 2016.
“Mary Lou's spirit was a gift to all who knew her,” says Jennifer Richard (Acting Dean of Libraries and Archives). “Her Halloween and Holiday websites were legendary, spreading cheer and fun to staff and students alike. She approached life with enthusiasm, whether joining colleagues at Wheelock for lunch or sledding down the hill outside the library. Her laughter echoed through the halls, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that enriched the lives of everyone around her.”
She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her library family and the people she touched around campus.

Murray, Brandon, Cassie and family, our condolences to you all. Mary Lou fought with all she had. The illness robbed her of living the life she so wanted. We enjoyed our visits with her whenever we were up home talking about days gone by. She will now be free of pain. She will leave lasting memories for those left behind. May she RIP.

Mary-Lou was a beautiful person inside and out. She always had a smile when we would meet, and the first to offer help or a kind word, just because of a comment on Facebook, always. She listened and she cared. We didn't even hang out but it felt we were true friends - a rare thing these days. She was so proud of all her boys, always. I know how much they will miss her, as will I. Fly high and keep shining that heartwarming smile of yours, and that gorgeius hair I always envied. Our family is too familiar with ALS ...

Many great memories with such a wonderful lady, I will always remember the intricate doll house, playing crokinole, climbing out the window to sit on the roof and watch the stars, the over sized for me bike I would bike around your driveway with, the tiny tea set we found under a tree at your new house, trips to the cottage with our family and the many many smiles and belly laughs that would always ensue. Thank you for being such an amazing friend to my mother! You will be truly missed. Rest easy
We love you

I am so sad to hear about the of passing Mary Lou.
We worked together on many projects during the years at Acadia University and I always enjoyed Mary Lou's sense of humour, friendliness and her outlook on life. Many hours were spent on the phone or in person talking with Mary Lou, which always ended with long laughing sessions, as we would always get side-tracked to the lighter things in life. I will forever miss those conversations.
My sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family at this sad time.

I remember when Mary Lou began to work at the Library. In Acquisitions as I recall. She quickly moved on to a position that involved working with a computer and after that she was unstoppable. In no time she became the webmaster for the Library and also worked on websites for related library projects. Her work was fantastic and she worked to please each person she worked with. And Mary Lou took every opportunity to learn more. A quiet sense of humour. Friend to everyone. She faced the news of her illness with great courage and determination to live life to the fullest. We will miss her so.
